Kim and Kanye, I understand that you love your precious little North West to bits, but you aren’t doing her or yourselves any good by spoiling her!
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, you are the loving parents of adorable North West, 1-and-a-half years old, but that doesn’t mean that you should spoil her like crazy! It’s absolutely true that you can never, ever give any child too much love — too many hugs, too many kisses and too much encouragement, support and stability. Letting your child know that they always have your unconditional love will never “spoil” them.
But you can give them too many material things and too much money. No child needs custom-made $50,000 diamond earrings, which North reportedly has. Neither does any child need a $1,450 YSL purse or a closet full of 200 outfits that they haven’t even worn yet.
Now, North isn’t old enough to understand what earrings or even outfits are. And depending on her druthers, once she gets a little older, she may be very adamant about wanting to wear a princess costume every day or only wear jeans just like her cousin Mason, 4.
And so far we’re hearing from sources that at least you, Kanye, plan to spend everything you can on your beloved daughter.
“He’s living like a king and he wants the same for Nori,” a source close to the couple tells HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY. “He’s trying to set Nori up where she won’t have to work a day in her life.”
Kanye, you’re even planning to have $10 million available for North West to spend when she turns 21, according to our HollywoodLife source.
Now Kanye, your hope is that this will actually enable North to be free to be creative.
“He wants her to create, innovate and leave her mark on the world,” explains the source. “He wants her to live the life and become one of the greats like him, or Emily Dickinson or Einstein or Chopin or Rembrandt.”
That’s a pretty amazing goal for North West, and I applaud you, Kanye and Kim, for having big ambitions for your daughter.
But I have to caution the two of you. You can’t forget that drive and ambition are very often fueled by not having everything, and by having to fight against odds to get ahead.
None of the people whom you, Kanye, see as role models for North were born into privileged lives financially. And they all had to struggle and work exceedingly hard — just like you two, Kim and Kanye, to achieve huge success.
Kim and Kanye, you may live very worldly, glamorous lives today that are rich in material wealth, but you didn’t start out that way. You both grew up in middle class, not hugely wealthy, households.
There is something about having it all financially that can discourage a young person from waking up each morning with a fire in their belly.
A lot of times, people who achieve greatness HAVE TO, because they literally cannot afford to fail — they’d be broke!
Kim, to your credit, you’ve spoken out in a recent interview with the London Evening Standard magazine, and said that North will absolutely have to work.
“She will have to work for what she wants,” you told ES magazine, explaining that when you were growing up, your parents would not give you money for a Dolce & Gabbana dress or a pair of Prada shoes that you wanted.
“We didn’t get anything from [our parents]. We had to get a job if we wanted it. So I was working in a clothing store and I would save and save.”
Kim, the lesson that your parents taught you was a good one — you needed to work hard to get what you wanted. You learned it well and you still work tremendously hard. And you, Kanye, never stop working.
You are both very motivated people. You clearly want to pass that motivation on to your daughter, even if she has been born into tremendous wealth.
But if you want North West to be motivated to be creative and to have dreams that she wants to fulfill, you can’t give her too much materially. Spoiling North West could diminish her drive.
