It’s the fight boxing fans have been waiting for! During an interview with Showtime, Floyd Mayweather called out his long-time rival, Manny Pacquiao, by challenging him to an epic match on May 2. Watch the video below!
“I would love to fight Manny Pacquiao. We tried to make the fight happen years ago; we had problems with random blood and urine testing. I just want to be on an even playing field. Now he’s in a very, very tight situation. He’s lost to [Juan Manuel] Marquez [in 2012], he’s lost to [Timothy] Bradley [by controversial decision in 2012 but avenged it in April]. Pay-per-view numbers are extremely low. He’s desperate. I wanted that fight a long time ago. I’m just waiting on them,” Floyd told Showtime, according to ESPN.
Unfortunately, the fight may not go down on May 2…or ever. Manny’s promoter allegedly claims that the Cinco de Mayo weekend should be reserved for a Mexican boxer, according to Steve Carp on Twitter. And fans on Twitter are predicting there will be many more excuses to come.
Floyd, 37, and Manny, 35, have been going back and forth about a fight for years, but it’s never happened.
