Yobe State Governor asks fleeing Yobe residents to return

Governor Ibrahim Geidam of Yobe State
Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Geidam has visited neighbouring Niger Republic to persuade over 4,000 residents of the state, who fled from the Boko Haram violence to return home.
Geidam, who was in Maine Soroa in the Niger Republic at the weekend to see the Geidam, Kanamma and Yunusari residents that fled to the neighbouring country as a result of   attacks by the insurgents on their towns, was conducted round by the Premier (governor) of Diffa region, Alhaji Yakuba Usman.
Usman told the governor that over 4,000 Yobe residents had been in asylum in Niger.

He said 1,385 out of the number were camped and being fed by the Niger Republic government while 3,000 others lived with friends and relatives in Maine Soroa town.
Addressing the refugees, Geidam promised that the state government would extend support to them, asking them to return home.

He said more soldiers would be deployed in their communities in Yobe.
Some of the displaced persons told the governor that soldiers and other security operatives ran away when the insurgents attacked their communities.
The governor also visited Geidam in the northern part of the state to commiserate with the people and to assure them of support after the attack

Geidam, the home town of the governor, was attacked seven days ago.
Gaidam, who inspected the military base in the area, the divisional police station, the local government secretariat and the Geidam market as well as other damaged public and private property, assured the people of the town of his government’s support.

He expressed his condolences to the families of the dead victims of the attack and the people of the town.
He described the attack as wicked, sinful and brutal and announced the formation of a committee to comprise the State Emergency Management Agency, two state assembly members and two commissioners from the Geidam town, as well as the chairman of the Geidam Market Association, among other elders.
The governor directed the committee to compile a comprehensive report on losses incurred and assured that the displaced persons would continue to be offered the best of support.

Geidam instructed SEMA to provide foodstuffs to the people of the town within the next four days.
